Don’t involve family, friends in govt business – Domelevo to public officers
Business City News
Former Auditor-General Daniel Yao Domelevo has called on public officers to refrain from involving family and friends in government business.
Domelevo emphasised the importance of maintaining professionalism and integrity in public service, warning that nepotism and favouritism can undermine the effectiveness and credibility of government operations.
Speaking on The Big Issue on Channel One TV, Domelevo highlighted the risks associated with such practices, including conflicts of interest and the potential for corruption.
He urged public officers to adhere strictly to ethical standards and to prioritise the public interest over personal relationships.
“We are put in public office to discharge or prosecute the agenda of the country, not our family and friends’ agenda…Public officers must learn to separate themselves from their family and relatives when it comes to government business,” he stated.
Domelevo’s remarks come at a time when there is increasing scrutiny on the conduct of public officials and the need for greater transparency and accountability in government following the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) report on the Airbus scandal.
